The Heartbeat I Forgot

Sometimes it's warm. Sometimes there's a quiet static underneath, something closer to worry.Everything looks still, the kind of stillness that isn't empty, just waiting, with something moving quietly beneath it.

A melody caught me there, and for a moment I noticed my own heartbeat, steady, insistent, mine. I don't usually notice it. Most of the time I'm just living, moving through the day without paying attention to the thing keeping me here.

Aware, then lost again. Warm, then uncertain. Still, and alive at the same time.
